Volunteers needed for A2ndVoice Autism Support in Tooting
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: A2ndVoice Autism Support Group is appealing for volunteers and community support to help meet the increasing demand for its autism-specific Summer Holiday Programme for autistic children, young people and their families.
A2ndvoice specialises in autism-specific support, recognising that many autistic children and their families are unable to access suitable holiday provision, particularly those who are not eligible for the Government’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme.
Dr Venessa Swaby, Founder and CEO of A2ndvoice, said, “Every summer we see more autistic families looking for safe, understanding and inclusive activities. Although we were disappointed not to receive additional funding, we refused to reduce our support. Instead, we worked harder to create additional opportunities for families who are often overlooked. However, we cannot do this alone. We are calling on individuals, businesses and our local community to volunteer, donate and stand alongside us so that every autistic family feels welcomed, included and valued.”
A2ndvoice is looking for volunteers aged 18 and over to support:
• Family welcome and registration
• Healthy Cookery Club
• Sports and physical activities
• Arts and crafts
• Refreshments and hospitality
• Setting up and clearing away
• General family support throughout the day
No previous autism experience is required. Training and guidance will be provided, and volunteers from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
The organisation also continues its £3,000 fundraising appeal to help provide additional places, healthy food, resources and activities for families who are not eligible for HAF funding.
Sessions are being held at Tooting Leisure Centre until Thursday 27th August. Volunteers are asked to commit between 2 to 8 hours a week, from 10am to 3pm.
Volunteers can sign up by emailing admin@a2ndvoicecic.co.uk
Donations are also welcome via their Justgiving page.
