Volunteers need for Wandsworth literacy charity
Wandsworth literacy charity Learn to Love to Read, has been recognised for its impact on local children after winning Best Charity award at this year’s Wandsworth Business Awards – and need volunteers to help them continue their vital work.
The charity, which works with primary schools across South West London, was recognised for its work helping children develop confidence, improve literacy skills and discover a genuine love of reading.
Learn to Love to Read helps children discover the joy of reading from their earliest years. Through parent and child classes in libraries, schools and community settings, songs and story sessions delivered with family support organisations, and one-to-one reading volunteers in primary schools, the charity helps children build confidence, develop a love of books and create strong foundations for learning.
The charity is now looking for local people who can spare a small amount of time each week to support pupils at Swaffield Primary School in Earlsfield.
Tara Coffin Director of Learn to Love to Read, said, “Winning Best Charity was a wonderful recognition of the difference our volunteers and team make every week. At the heart of everything we do is helping children discover that reading can be enjoyable, empowering and life-changing.
“We’re excited to be partnering with Swaffield Primary School and are now looking for local volunteers to help us bring the programme to life. Just an hour a week can make a huge difference to a child’s confidence and relationship with reading and in turn their future life chances.”
The charity welcomes volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. No teaching experience is required and full training and support are provided.
