Wandsworth Council has agreed a six-year deal with the London Hotel Group (LHG) to use the 186-room Constitutional House, in Tooting, a move expected to save the council up to £6 million, reports The Standard.
The scheme aims to keep more homeless families in Wandsworth by tackling the shortage of local accommodation. This is anticipated to improve outcomes for children, given that nearly half of the council’s current temporary housing units are located outside the borough. Full story via The Standard.
Tooting-based property advisor Homes with Chuk has a sneak preview of some homes before they hit the portals, with some personal insights from the sellers...
“Before they hit Rightmove 👀 – here’s a first look at three local homes I’ll be bringing to market over the next couple of weeks.
“And this isn’t just a ‘coming soon’ post – two of these homes come with something a little different, with the people who have lived there helping to tell the story.
“There’s Kayleigh’s wonderful 2 double bedroom flat in Tooting Broadway, where she kindly spoke to camera about what she’s loved about living there, what she’ll miss, and why it’s been such a special home.
“There’s also a gorgeous 3 bedroom end of terrace house on the Tooting/Streatham borders, with potential for a loft conversion – and I’ll be sitting down with the sellers for a chat about their home, the memories they’ve made there, and what they think the next owners will love. This home really is lovely! 😍
“And there’s a fabulous 1 bedroom flat with a communal roof terrace, less than 2 minutes’ walk from Tooting Broadway tube, perfect for a first time buyer with a budget up to £325,000!
“A home is never just bricks, floorplans and square footage. It’s the Sunday mornings, the favourite corners, the walks to the coffee shop, the neighbours, the routines, the chapters.
“Of course, the professional photos, walkthrough videos and details matter – and they’re all coming too – but sometimes the best way to understand a home is to hear from the people who know it best.
“If you’re thinking of moving in or around Tooting, Balham or Streatham — or you’d like to hear about homes before they hit the portals — drop me an email or a message.
“I also sell a number of homes off-market, so it’s always worth getting in touch. You never know what might be quietly available before it appears online… or without it appearing online at all.”

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to join the energetic team running the Furzedown Youth Centre (FYC) on Welham Road!
Hannah is FYC’s Operational Manager and Ethan leads the fun weekly sessions, supported by a great team of volunteers – but more are needed to help run the fantastic local centre.
Open every Friday after school, the centre welcomes kids from school years 6 to 13 to relax, play games, get active and be creative, as well as take part in events like the recent streetdance workshops from the Royal Academy of Dance.
The team also runs a popular Tuesday lunch club for Graveney pupils, with a quiet space to do homework, unwind and play card games or chess (with snacks, soup & hot chocolate available).
Volunteers are essential to keep the centre open – get in touch if you’re interested, even as an occasional helper. Training & DBS checks provided.
The centre is supported by Furzedown churches and welcomes all young people regardless of race, gender, culture, sexuality or religion. It is open during the school term, 6pm-8pm. Parents must register.

Good luck to Tooting mum-of-five Aimee-Lee Costen, who’ll be taking on the Macmillan Causeway Coast Marathon Hike on this Saturday 20th June in memory of her brother, Patrick, who sadly passed away from bowel cancer in January of this year at the age of 39.
Patrick was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in October 2025. Just 76 days later, he passed away, leaving his family devastated by the speed at which the illness took hold.
The challenge holds special significance for Aimee-Lee, as she and Patrick completed the Causeway Coast route together in 2022. Returning to the trail now feels like a meaningful way to honour his memory while raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Both grew up in and around Tooting and attended local schools. Aimee-Lee still lives in the area with her children and hopes the challenge will raise funds for Macmillan while remembering her brother.
Aimee-Lee tells us, “The Causeway Coast was somewhere Patrick and I visited together, so returning there to complete the hike in his memory means a great deal to me. We only had 76 days from his diagnosis to losing him, and taking on this challenge feels like a way of honouring him while supporting other families facing cancer.”
Donations can be made via her Justgiving page.
Good luck to the staff and teachers of Tooting’s St Boniface RC Primary School, as they take part in the fifth annual Noah’s Walk this Friday, a fundraising challenge that has become a school tradition.
The walk was established in honour of Noah Gray, a much-loved former St Boniface pupil who lives with Cockayne Syndrome, a rare genetic condition. What began as a staff fundraising initiative has grown into an annual event that reflects the school’s strong sense of community, compassion and service to others.
Each year, staff voluntarily walk between 7 and 12 miles to raise money for causes that have touched the lives of members of the school community. Over the past five years, Noah’s Walk has supported Great Ormond Street Hospital, Cockayne Syndrome charities, neonatal and renal units at St George’s Hospital, St Mary’s Ukrainian School, and Deen City Farm.
This year, the team will be raising funds for London’s Air Ambulance, helping to support the life-saving work carried out across the capital when every second counts.
Anyone wishing to support the fundraising can donate via the JustGiving page.

NEW TO TOOTING: local residents Niall and John have launched brick pointing business, Artisan Brick & Stone Restoration!
They recently finished a job outside The Living Room on Thrale Road – James the owner said of their work, “We had significant areas of damaged brickwork across the whole front facade that needed putting right. John and Niall took the time to explain exactly what needed doing and why, which gave us real confidence from the start. The standard of work was excellent — you would never know where the brick repairs had been carried out.
“It’s given the front of our house a real lift. We found them to be honest, hardworking and clearly proud of their work. I’d be very happy to recommend them to others!”

Congratulations and good luck to Niall and John!
