“Tucked away on Church Lane, this house has plenty of personality, a lovely flow through the ground floor, two bathrooms and a private garden out back… and, its own supply of pears. 🍐😍
“Location-wise, you’re rather nicely placed too. Tooting Common is close by when you fancy some green space, while Tooting Broadway, the tube, markets, restaurants and everything else that makes SW17 tick are all within easy reach.
“But we’re not showing you everything just yet. Instead, here are a few little glimpses of a home that’s warm, interesting and very much somebody’s own.
“The full reveal is coming soon, but Tooting Newsie followers get a little peek first. Check out Instagram or Facebook for more info!👀

🏸⚽ LOCAL SPORTS CLUBS: Instant Physio has been growing its partnerships with sports teams and clubs around Tooting and South West London, with two new clubs recently joining!
Ed from Instant Physio tells us, “We already partner with Tooting Run Club and Woodfield Grove Tennis Club, and we’ve recently partnered with FC Tooting Bec Women and St Margaret’s Badminton Club as well.
“We really enjoy working with local sports clubs. The idea is to support people with injuries, help them stay active and give clubs access to things like physio advice, strength and performance testing, educational sessions and member benefits.
“On Monday 28 September, Angus and I are heading down to a St Margaret’s Badminton Club training session with our force plates. Players will be able to have a go at testing things like their jump height and lower-limb strength, and everyone who takes part will go into a prize draw to win a free 30-minute massage.
“We’d really like to partner with a few more clubs around Tooting, Balham and the surrounding area. It doesn’t need to be a huge club. If you run a local football, rugby, tennis, badminton, running or other sports club, get in touch and tell us a bit about it.”

Meet Tom, who’s launched the Tooting Talk Club at The Furzedown Project.
Talk Club is a UK men’s mental health charity, which helps men improve their mental fitness through free peer-to-peer talking groups like this.
Tom lost his brother to suicide in 2023 and also his business partner a few months later – it’s a sad fact that suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50 and that many men struggle to talk about how they really feel. So when Tom learnt about Talk Club, he was inspired to become a volunteer Talk Club Captain (not a trained therapist) running sessions in the city and now in Furzedown, where he lives.
Every session starts with one simple question: “How are you? Out of 10?” Men then explain their number, building awareness, openness, and resilience.
Sessions are free, for men of all ages, every fortnight starting at 6:30pm. The next session takes place on Wednesday 7th October. Drop in or contact Tom on 07739305216 to find out more.

There was an apple-pressing 🍏🍎 event at The Furzedown Project on Saturday, to help celebrate Wandsworth’s Sustainable September!
Apples had been collected from local gardens by volunteers, including Camilla & Debbie (who leads the Project’s gardeners’ group). Lots of people of all ages enjoyed having a go at crushing (”scratting”) the apples and pressing them to make fresh apple juice – which tasted delicious!
The Furzedown Project at 91-93 Moyser Road, SW16 6SJ, is an activity centre and social hub for people aged 50 and over, who’s mission is to increase people’s sense of wellbeing and reduce social isolation. More info on their website.

Tooting Broadway, c. 1908! Two small newspaper boys, no more than ten years old, stand in the middle of the roadway hoping to catch the attention of tram passengers or of passing pedestrians.
Placed on the pavement by the railings of the public toilets are two of the plough carriers for the tramway service. These were carried on the trams to gather the electric current from the roadway central slot or conduit as it was called.
