Sprout Community Arts's Art Loan event in Furzedown, taking place next month, allows people to take home a work of art to enjoy for six months – for free!
The show is open to everyone, 11am-5pm on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th January, with a members-only preview on the evening of Thursday 9th January.
There will be around 70 works of art by many popular artists and everyone is welcome to become a member (which costs £15 a year) and take part in the loan scheme.
The event started in 2018 to promote local artists and encourage local people to appreciate original artworks.
More info, including how to join Sprout Arts, via their website.
SLSC look forward to welcoming you to the events, with entrants from around the globe, freezing races, hot tubs, saunas, cheering, bunting, stalls full of lovely swimmy goodies, bespoke beers and tasty hot food trucks. Plus charity icy dips, fabulous hats, cups of hot Ribena and so many laughing and smiling faces.

With sub-zero temperatures predicted, Tooting's St George’s Hospital emergency department is expecting demand to soar as the temperature drops.
While icy conditions can cause more slips and falls, the impact of cold weather on the body can also increase the risk of strokes, heart attacks and respiratory illnesses such as pneumonia – particularly in vulnerable people, including older adults and those with existing health conditions.
Health Chiefs are recommending people to:
• Check in on people who may need extra support during cold weather such as older friends, family and neighbours;
• Stay at home until you have not been sick or had diarrhoea for at least 2 days, if you have symptoms of norovirus – as this is when you’re most infectious;
• Stock up on any medications or prescriptions;
• Use NHS 111 online if you need urgent health advice.
If you need urgent medical help, NHS 111 online – a 24/7 service that can direct people where to go for care – should be the first port of call. Pharmacies can provide advice on minor illnesses such as colds, coughs and earache.
It’s important that people continue to call 999 or go to an emergency department when it is life-threatening.

Wandsworth Council offers both collection and drop-off services for real Christmas trees. Christmas tree recycling collections will start from Monday 6 January 2025 and will run throughout the month (see below for drop-off services details).
Christmas tree recycling collections will start from Monday 6 January 2025 and will run throughout the month.
Your tree will be collected on the same day as your rubbish and recycling, but by a different vehicle so this may not be at the same time as other collections.
Trees should be left out after 6.30pm on the day before the collection is due, and by 6.30am on the collection day.
If you have a front garden - put your tree out for collection next to your rubbish and recycling bags, on your usual collection day - not on the street.
If you do not have a front garden - put your tree just outside your front door on the pavement taking care not to block where people walk.
If you live in a block of flats - leave your tree near to your rubbish or recycling bin store, making sure you do not block access to the bins.
Full info via Wandsworth Council.
