Popular local community initiative and UK registered charity Tooting Run Club (TRC) is hosting its annual fundraiser at The Wheatsheaf on Thursday 1 October at 7pm, with a raffle and other activities!
Founded in 2022 by Tahir Shams in partnership with Herne Hill Harriers, TRC supports beginner and intermediate runners aged 18+, particularly women, with free running sessions, exercise classes, yoga and social activities.
In 2025, TRC delivered 300 free sessions with 15,000 attendees. The 100% volunteer led club has been supported by grants from Wandsworth Council, the National Lottery and the London Marathon Foundation, but is now fundraising to keep its programme free.
Funds will help cover track and studio hire, volunteer training, equipment, their website, and other operational costs.
The club will be at Tooting Parkrun this Saturday 19th, come along, meet the team and find out more (see the Tooting parkrun website for more info).

FRAUD PREVENTION EVENT at Tooting Library, this Friday 18th September, 10am-12pm.

Breathe Melodies for Mums, a FREE programme for new mums, returns to Tooting in October!
The 10-week group singing programme for mums and their babies combines music, connection, and science to support emotional wellbeing during early motherhood.
Running from Wednesday 14 October to 16 December 2026, the sessions offer a warm, welcoming space where mums can relax, connect with others, and take a moment for themselves – no singing experience required.
The babies come along and enjoy every minute, but the sessions are designed for the mums. An hour in the week that’s about you, how you’re doing, and doing something that feels good.
Led by professional Breathe musicians, the sessions are built around uplifting songs from around the world and you don’t need to be able to sing. Nobody’s performing and nobody’s getting anything “right.” You turn up as you are, baby in tow, and join in as much or as little as you fancy.
Breathe Melodies for Mums is run by not-for-profit social enterprise Breathe Arts Health Research, and it’s backed by research showing that singing together supports new mums’ wellbeing.
It’s completely free, runs for ten weeks, and is open to new mums and babies across Tooting and nearby. Spaces are limited, so it’s worth registering early.

Howden Insurance Tooting recently held a dress-down charity day in support of The Felix Project, with employees generously donating money and food to help those in need.
Felix is one of London’s leading food redistribution charities, rescuing high-quality surplus food that would otherwise go to waste, and delivering it to charities, schools, food banks and community organisations supporting people facing food insecurity. The charity’s mission is simple: to ensure that good food is never wasted while helping people who need it most.
The event saw staff across the office come together to support this important cause, demonstrating Howden’s commitment to giving back to the local community and helping organisations that make a real difference to people’s lives.

HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY 🎉 to the Northern line extension from Clapham South to Morden (taking in Balham, Tooting Bec and Tooting Broadway along the way) – an extension that created what was, at the time, the longest railway tunnel in the world, running from East Finchley to Morden via Bank!
Its stations were Charles Holden’s first for the Underground, it introduced a new design of escalator, and Morden even came with something distinctly novel for a tube station – a car park.
