From a boring fence to a Tooting masterpiece!
Have you spotted this mural on Hillbrook Road? The giant, colourful celebration of our neighbourhood featuring local landmarks, the Tube, International Day, and much more, is now on display for everyone to see outside Hillbrook Primary School.
Every child at the school was invited to draw their own home for a competition called “My Home” with the winning designs from every year group painted permanently on the wall.
The whole thing was led by brilliant Tooting-based artist Charly Earnshaw; over one weekend, parents, teachers, and kids grabbed a brush and got stuck in. People walking past just joined in too! Plus the team at Mirch Masala turned up with free food and drinks for everyone painting.
The organisers would like to say a huge thanks to everyone who made it happen! The event was organised by the Hillbrook PFTA and led by Sarah Coles-Andrew, supported through Wandsworth’s London Borough of Culture (a Mayor of London initiative), with Wandsworth Council, Arts Council England and The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Wickes Community Programme supplied paints and brushes!
You can see more of Charly’s work on her website.
